VMware Telco Cloud-Native Platform

VMware Telco Cloud platform makes Communication Service Providers (CSPs) quickly deliver new services, products, and applications. Telco Cloud optimizes infrastructure and operations for the 5G applications and services with very low latency and makes revenue from 5G and digital transformation opportunities.

The core capabilities introduced by VMware for Telco cloud-native displayed in the following figure (copied from VMware document) and explained in the next points:

Full-stack virtualization solutions:

VMware vSphere

VMware vSphere is Highly reliable computing resources with high availability, fault tolerance, and load balancing NVFs workloads.

VMware vSAN

VMware vSAN allows you to manage to compute and storage with a single platform, which lowers complexity and simplifies operations. Lower latency and jitter in VNFs; because of storage tightly integrated with the computing resources.

VMware NSX

VMware NSX is VMware software-defined network, which can provide distributed (sliced) network services for Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs), provides granular network isolation by using micro-segmentation.

Virtualized Infrastructure Managers (VIMs)

VMware Integrated OpenStack and VMware Cloud Director provide the Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) with the hardware life cycle, including computing, storage, and networking for virtual machines and container workloads.

Fully integrated operation management:

Operation Management Provides automated operations through real-time monitoring, analytics, and remediation, since VMware vRealize Operations Manager, vRealize Log Insight, and vRealize Network fully integrated into the VNF cloud.

(2) VMware Telco Cloud Automation

Telco Cloud Simplifies the automation across any network and any cloud and gives the following benefits:

1. The Generic virtualized network function (G-NVF) Management at the physical, virtualized, and container levels.

2. The Network Virtualized Function Orchestration (NVFO) simplifies management and design through Multi-vendor network service.

3. The MANO (Multiple-vendor Management And Orchestration) is standard cloud architecture allows any vendor management and orchestration.

4. The Multi-cloud application placement Allows an application to move from the private to the public cloud or from the core network to the edge network.

(3) VMware Integrated OpenStack

Introduces several features to help CSPs simplify, scale, and secure production OpenStack environments.

Integrated OpenStack makes it easy to run an enterprise-grade OpenStack cloud on top of VMware virtualization technologies. And it gives standard OpenStack access for developers.

Maximizes the benefits of edge computing and deploying new NVFs services in OpenStack.

VMware Integrated OpenStack is a downloadable template easy to deploy and install using the vSphere web client.

VMware Integrated OpenStack Template consists of a separate control plane and data plane, enabling updates and maintenance cycles without service interruption.

Automated operations achieved using VMware vRealize Operations Manager, vRealize Log Insight, and vRealize Network fully integrated with VNF Cloud, enabling real-time operations monitoring, analytics, and remediation.

(4) Uhana by VMware

AI-based analytics works at mobile network subscriber-level RAN to give in-depth understanding for media streaming. It detects root causes and remediates network errors in real-time using artificial intelligence and machine learning, to support low latency applications and extensive streaming of events and incidents.

(5) Kubernetes-based container solutions

Containers are the fast track for building and delivering cloud-native applications and cloud-native network functions, delivering products, applications, and services at business speed.

The Containers package the applications and their dependencies into a distributable image can run almost anywhere. The Containers are streamlining software development and deployment.

(6) Intrinsic Security:

Networking and security with Carbon Black, NSX, AppDefense, and vRealize Network Insight capabilities integrated into VMware telco cloud.

(7) VMware SD-WAN:

VMware SD-WAN has the following advantages:

1. Improves real-time app performance over standard Internet connections.

2. Simplifies policy management with cloud-based configurations, provide optimized and secure SaaS or infrastructure as a service (IaaS) access.

3. Supports zero-touch deployment to bring up branches in days, not months.

(8) Ready for Telco Cloud Certification Program:

The Program certifies infrastructure, lifecycle, and automation to Europe standards "VMware vCloud NFV Reference Architecture."
